Abstract
Referred pain is a complex physiological and neurological phenomenon in which pain is perceived in a region of the body distant from the actual site of injury or pathology. This misperception occurs due to the convergence of afferent nerve fibers from both visceral and somatic structures onto the same spinal neurons. As a result, the brain cannot correctly localize the pain stimulus. Understanding the mechanisms of referred pain is essential for healthcare professionals, as it aids in diagnosing underlying conditions that may not present with direct pain at the site of the affected organ. This paper provides an overview of the physiological basis, clinical manifestations, and diagnostic importance of referred pain.References
