Abstract

The global rise in obesity has led to a corresponding increase in the prevalence of diabetes mellitus, particularly type 2 diabetes. The connection between these two metabolic disorders is multifactorial, involving complex interactions between genetic, hormonal, inflammatory, and behavioral factors. Obesity contributes to insulin resistance, impaired glucose tolerance, and chronic hyperglycemia, all of which play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of diabetes. This paper discusses the pathophysiological mechanisms linking obesity to diabetes, epidemiological trends, clinical implications, and preventive strategies aimed at reducing the global burden of these interrelated diseases.
