Abstract
This article analyzes the theoretical foundations of the phenomenon of synonymy and the specific features of its representation in learner’s dictionaries. The lexical-semantic classification of synonyms, as well as their semantic, pragmatic, and stylistic differences, are examined, and the principles of presenting synonymic rows on the basis of a dominant unit are substantiated. In addition, the scientific, didactic, and educational functions of learner’s dictionaries are revealed, and the importance of the systematic and purposeful presentation of synonyms in such dictionaries for the language teaching process is explained.
