Abstract

Communicative Teaching and Learning (CTL) is a modern approach in English language education that focuses on improving learners’ ability to use English in real-life communication. Unlike traditional methods that emphasize grammar memorization and written exercises, CTL prioritizes interaction, speaking practice, and meaningful language use. This approach helps students develop fluency, confidence, and the ability to communicate effectively in different situations. In today’s globalized world, where English is widely used in education, business, and technology, CTL plays an important role in preparing learners for real communication needs.

This paper examines how CTL improves English language learning by enhancing students’ speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills through interactive and student-centered activities. It also highlights the role of teachers as facilitators who guide learners rather than dominate the learning process. Through methods such as group discussions, role-plays, and real-life communication tasks, students become more active participants in the classroom. The study shows that CTL increases motivation, reduces fear of speaking, and improves overall language performance.

Furthermore, the findings suggest that CTL is highly effective in preparing learners for academic and professional environments where English communication is essential. By developing critical thinking, collaboration skills, and practical language use, CTL ensures that students are not only learning English but also using it confidently in real-world contexts. Therefore, CTL is considered one of the most successful approaches in modern English language teaching
