Abstract
Affixation is one of the most productive and widely used processes of word formation in the English language. It involves the addition of affixes to a base or root word in order to create new lexical units or modify existing ones. The purpose of this article is to analyze the structure and functions of affixes, identify their main types, and demonstrate their role in vocabulary expansion. The study uses descriptive and analytical methods to examine examples of words formed through affixation. The results show that prefixes mainly modify the meaning of words, while suffixes frequently change the grammatical category. Understanding affixation is essential for linguistic research and language learning because it helps explain how new words are created and how vocabulary develops over time.
