Abstract
В статье рассматриваются гидронимические термины «кул» и «сой», широко употребляемые в топонимии Средней Азии, в частности в регионах Мирзачульской низменности и Сырдарьинской области. Анализируются происхождение, семантика и распространение данных терминов в тюркских, монгольских, индоиранских и кавказских языках. Показано, как эти слова отражают физико-географические особенности региона и его историко-культурное развитие. Особое внимание уделено формам гидронимов, связанным с солёными озёрами, подземными водотоками и сезонными ручьями. Представлены примеры этнонимов и топонимов с компонентами «кул», «сой», а также их этимологический анализ.
