Abstract

This article highlights the importance of developing academic vocabulary to improve writing skills, especially for learners of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) and English as a Second Language (ESL). It begins by defining academic vocabulary and explaining how it influences students' written work. The article also analyzes the common challenges students face when learning academic words. Effective methods for vocabulary development—such as explicit instruction, contextual learning, use of technology, and interactive activities—are discussed. The outcomes of using these techniques, including improved writing coherence, academic performance, and self-confidence, are examined. Practical classroom examples illustrate the effectiveness of these approaches. The article concludes with useful recommendations for both teachers and learners.
