Abstract

This article addresses the role of metaphor in the formation and development of terms, bearing in mind its influence on the semantic structure of terms. The linguistic features of metaphorical comparison were compared and analyzed using the examples of term formation in the English and Uzbek languages. Based on the examples of terms formed by metaphor, common features and differences in their semantic structure were discussed. The findings presented in this article confirm that metaphor plays a significant role in the development of a terminology system, as it enriches the terminology system with new terms, names, and denotes concepts inherent in the subject of a particular field.
