Abstract

This study explores the linguistic and cultural challenges in translating paired words (binomial expressions) between English and Uzbek. Paired words are fixed or semi-fixed word combinations frequently used for emphasis, rhythm, or stylistic effect. The research employs contrastive analysis and examples from literary and spoken language to identify structural and semantic differences. Findings highlight that cultural-specific expressions, lexical gaps, and syntactic incongruities often hinder direct translation. Recommendations for translators include increased awareness of both linguistic systems and cultural pragmatics.
