Abstract

In the context of contemporary higher education, the development of critical thinking and analytical skills has become an important objective of effective language and humanities education. Learners are increasingly expected not only to acquire knowledge but also to evaluate information, distinguish reliable sources, compare different perspectives, formulate arguments, and develop independent conclusions. This study examines the role of innovative pedagogical approaches in developing critical thinking and analytical skills among first-year students studying English at the Tashkent University of Information Technologies named after Muhammad al-Khwarizmi (TUIT). The study employs a qualitative and analytical approach based on recent academic literature and classroom experience. Particular attention is given to discussions, debates, problem-based learning, project-based learning, case studies, collaborative activities, presentations, reflective tasks, and digital learning resources. The findings indicate that these approaches create opportunities for students to participate actively in the learning process while simultaneously developing language proficiency, analytical reasoning, creativity, communication, and independent learning skills. The classroom experience also demonstrates that technology-related topics and authentic digital resources can make English learning more relevant to students studying at a technology-oriented university. However, effective implementation requires systematic teacher guidance, carefully designed activities, appropriate assessment strategies, and consideration of students’ language proficiency. The study concludes that integrating innovative, student-centered approaches into English language teaching can contribute to the development of independent, reflective, analytical, and confident university learners.
