Abstract

The integration of digital technologies into English language education has created new opportunities for developing learners’ communicative competence and improving their language skills. Among innovative teaching approaches, digital storytelling has emerged as a valuable educational tool that combines narrative techniques with multimedia resources, including images, audio, video, animation, and digital text. This article examines the role of digital storytelling in developing speaking and writing skills among learners of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) and explores its broader impact on language development. Particular attention is given to how digital storytelling encourages learners to organise ideas, expand vocabulary, improve grammatical accuracy, develop pronunciation, and communicate meaningfully. The article also discusses the pedagogical foundations of digital storytelling, its implementation in language classrooms, and its contribution to learner motivation, creativity, collaboration, and autonomy. Furthermore, it identifies potential challenges, including technological limitations, unequal access to digital resources, time constraints, and difficulties in assessing individual performance. The discussion suggests that digital storytelling can provide meaningful opportunities for integrated language practice when activities are carefully designed around clear learning objectives and appropriate assessment criteria. The article concludes that digital storytelling represents a promising learner-centred approach that can enrich language education by connecting linguistic development with creativity, personal expression, and purposeful communication.
