Abstract
The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed various aspects of education, including academic writing instruction. ChatGPT, an AI-powered language model, has emerged as a valuable tool for supporting students in the writing process. This study explores the role of ChatGPT in developing academic writing skills among learners. The research examines how the tool assists students in generating ideas, organizing content, improving grammar and vocabulary, and enhancing overall writing quality. The findings indicate that ChatGPT contributes positively to students’ writing performance by providing immediate feedback, language support, and personalized guidance. In addition, the tool helps increase learners’ confidence and motivation to engage in academic writing tasks. However, concerns regarding overreliance on AI, academic integrity, and critical thinking skills are also discussed. The study concludes that ChatGPT can serve as an effective supplementary resource for academic writing development when used responsibly and under appropriate educational guidance.
