Abstract
This article examines the challenges of translating humor in cinema subtitling, focusing on the TV series “Friends” and “The Big Bang Theory.” The study analyzes transformations used to overcome linguistic and cultural barriers, technical constraints of subtitling, and the specifics of foreign verbal jokes. Specifically, strategies for preserving puns, irony, and cultural realia in subtitles are studied through a comparative approach.
